Mixed media – Shadow box
12” x 12” (30.5 cm x 30.5 cm)
On Galiano Island, in the 1970s, an almost complete skeleton of a pregnant deer was found buried in the earth at the bottom of a hole. The bones were weathered but clean. The forms amazed me.
One Halloween, the pelvis and ribs, enjoyed a short life as a Spanish mantilla with a black lace veil. After that, the bones lived on a box until I was inspired to make two shadow boxes.
